CAZES, COMMITTED AND CERTIFIED VINEYARD IN BIODYNAMIC
FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS
Since 1895, four generations of winegrowers have followed one another with the same artisan-winegrower spirit.
CAZES has always been able to innovate successfully and be part of a constant pioneering process in Roussillon.
Dedicated expert men and women in perpetual search for excellence, with perfect mastery of each of its niche terroirs in order to extract the best.
For 20 years, the 220 hectare estate has been run entirely using biodynamic methods. A pioneer in the field and considered a locomotive in the French wine-growing landscape, Domaine Cazes bases its work on total harmony between the grape varieties, the climate, the flora and fauna, the land and the people who work it.
A cultivation method founded in 1924 and inspired by the work of the German philosopher Rudolf Steiner, who works on the prevention and enhancement of soil and plants in their natural environment.
In biodynamic culture, the vine is considered a living organism. Biodynamic practices aim to strengthen the unity, balance and resistance of this organism, and thus create harmonious living conditions between the earth, the sky, the plant and its entire ecosystem.
Biodynamics makes the vine naturally more resistant. It adapts to its environment, and becomes able to cope with the stress of diseases and climatic conditions. The effects of this method of cultivation are visible on the level of the soil which becomes loose, dark, rich in life and in organic matter, therefore easier to work to combat drought.
250 nesting boxes are located in the heart of the vineyard.
The populations of bats, insectivorous birds and raptors that come to shelter there are particularly useful for the protection of the vines, because they feed on insects which are harmful to them.
The pairs of Rolliers, migratory birds, have thus been multiplied by eight in just six years.
